2-2.1 Card Eligibility
Residents and property owners of Amherst County may obtain a library card free of charge. Non-county residents of Virginia or temporary county residents may obtain a card for a fee after presenting current identification with address and identification number as below. The fee is $15 for one year or $7 for 120 days. Residents from other states, not able to provide proof of Amherst County residency, may obtain a limited-use annual card for a fee of $25.00. Two additional cards may be obtained for spouse or minor children living within the household. Additional cards for other dependent children may be purchased for $2.00..
Outstanding charges owed by an individual must be paid before a library card can be issued or renewed. Library cards may be denied those people with a past record of serious abuse of library privileges and those banned from using the library. Lost cards should be reported immediately as you are responsible for all items checked out on your card.
Resident cards are issued for a period of three years
and then must be renewed at no cost. One replacement card
is provided free by the library. Any subsequent replacements
are made at a cost of $5.00 per card.
Library cards are
to be used by and for the person in whose name the card is
issued. Library cards should not be loaned to other
people, including family members. The card owner is
responsible for all library materials borrowed on his/her
card, as well as fees or charges incurred through use of the
card.
