2-4.3.2 Damaged or Lost Materials

A minimum fee of $5.00 per item will be charged for damaged materials that the library can repair. The charge for items that are lost or damaged beyond repair is the current retail list price plus a $3.00 per item processing fee. When the item that was lost or damaged is no longer available, a standard charge is imposed to replace that item with an appropriate substitute. Exceptions to the standard charge schedule are rare items, signed copies, 1st editions, special collection, and books that are out-of-print. In this case, the prevailing market value will be the charge for replacing the material with an appropriate substitute purchased by the library.

Books will be considered lost after a period of 90 days past the due date. Items returned with the library receipt for payment, in good condition, and within one year from the paid date may receive a refund of the amount they paid for the item but not the $3.00 processing fee and the overdue fines, which had accumulated up to the point of payment for the item. If the item has already been replaced by the library, no refund will be given.

The standard charges are as follows:

Barcode Replacement $1.00

If an item is readily available and the price of replacement is less than the maximum fine, this lesser amount will be charged.
